In the early days of Detroit Lakes, a local entrepreneur developed a new building and put his name in stone above the door. For over a century, it hosted a bank and other important businesses.

After time took its toll, MMCDC purchased and restored the entire block and, in 2019, completed the final interior office renovation. The words “Holmes Block” still appear above its entrance. And it’s still a great location for an entrepreneur.

“Visibility and curb appeal are the two things that I feel strongly about,” said State Farm Agent Nick Christenson, who occupies the office today, along with his wife and two more agents. “This came with both and I didn’t have to even think about it! An old historic building that is catchy and appealing to the eye–perfect! Finally, we do it differently here, this office building is different, too, so it fits what we are as a company–different in a good way. It allows more people to see us so we can help more people in the community.”
