When a rural resort faced a financing shortfall, an MMCDC loan of $100,000 supported project completion.

Financing helped finish three 1,150-square-foot cabins at North of North Wilderness Resort and Outfitters near Ely, Minn. The cabins are short-term rentals for the general public as well as for participants from a nonprofit serving people with disabilities. The resort features fully accessible paths, trails, and docks on 7.7 acres.

Owners Jill Leary and husband Sean, who is living with a spinal cord injury, operate the resort and the nonprofit, Adaptive Wilderness Within Reach, while working and raising a family in Minneapolis.

Everyone deserves the chance to experience the transformative power of the wilderness. Outdoor recreation shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for the able-bodied or those with financial means–it should be accessible to all. Financing provided by MMCDC and other lenders was necessary for us to pursue this dream. — Jill and Sean Leary, North of North Wilderness Resort and Outfitters
