A growing number of small business owners and executives are women, doing business in their own way.  The number and growth rate of women-owned and controlled businesses has significantly outpaced that of all businesses.

The Freeport-McMoran Foundation and its partners, Thunderbird School of Global Management and Bluedrop Performance Learning, offer a free online curriculum called “DreamBuilder: The Women’s Business Creator.” Thoughtful participation results in a business plan for the student. Those who are on the fast track can register for DreamBuilder, and then select “Financing Your Dream,” a shorter program on access to capital.

The Small Business Administration certifies Woman Business Enterprises (WBEs) and others for government contracting purposes. Business owners can self-certify through the SBA website, or they can work with third-party certifiers, including the National Women Business Owners Corporation, the US Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.

SBA also offers its own free learning platform for women entrepreneurs, Ascent.
