Just like at MMCDC, a growing number of small business owners and executives are women, doing business in their own way. The number and growth rate of women-owned and controlled businesses has significantly outpaced that of all businesses.
The Freeport-McMoran Foundation and its partners, Thunderbird School of Global Management and Bluedrop Performance Learning, offer a free online curriculum called “DreamBuilder: The Women’s Business Creator.” Thoughtful participation results in a business plan for the student. Those who are on the fast track can register for DreamBuilder, and then select “Financing Your Dream,” a shorter program on access to capital.

The Small Business Administration certifies Woman Business Enterprises (WBEs) and others for government contracting purposes. Business owners can self-certify through the SBA website, or they can work with third-party certifiers, including the National Women Business Owners Corporation, the US Women’s Chamber of Commerce, and the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
